Meet the Artist

Kestrel Preston was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, dividing her childhood between her family's home in Ballard and their farm in Eugene, Oregon. It was in the rhythm of those back-and-forth trips - and through early exposure to the creative world of her cousins and grandmother - that Kestrel first discovered her love for art.Years later, after becoming a mother, Kestrel found her true artistic calling: collaborative art with her young children. One afternoon on a whim, she brought her two little ones into the backyard, cleared off a table, set out some finger paints, and the three of them spent the afternoon laughing and smiling, up to their elbows in pigment. As they swirled vibrant colors across the paper, Kestrel had a sudden flash of inspiration what if these joyful, messy creations could be transformed into portraits of her children’s most beloved companions: their treasured stuffed animals? And so, Sweetvine was born. Now, Kestrel brings the magic of childhood to life by turning children’s cherished toys into vibrant, custom portraits. Her work celebrates the whimsy of early years and creates keepsakes that families around the world will treasure for a lifetime.Today, Kestrel lives in Seattle with her growing family. When she's not painting or chasing toddlers, she loves discovering up-and-coming new bands and experimenting in the kitchen, adding to the ever-growing collection in her unofficial recipe book - one she hopes to organize eventually, someday.
